How to Make Your Own Ringtone

1. Start recording using your favorite sound editing software. I used Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge 5.0 (now marketed as a Sony title).

2. Play your favorite song, all or part, on your favorite media player. I use the Windows Media Player.

3. Stop recording.

4. Edit the file down to no more than 30 seconds. (Remember it will count as multiple "rings", not just one!) Make sure it sounds good looped, since if it's only a few seconds long, you might hear it more than once before you answer the call.

5. Save as a .wav or .mp3 file.

6. Convert it to .amr using your favorite conversion software. I used Cocoon's Quick Media Converter (QMC Version HD 4.0.0.8).

7. Put the ringtone file onto your phone's memory card. My Nokia accepts a Micro SD card. I use the Digital Concepts converter drive to go from my hard drive to the card.

8. Change your ringtone!
